The downstairs is primarily Chinese cuisine (where we ate) - and the upstairs is Japanese with sushi and sashimi. Ordering is done with tablets and then they tape a paper copy of your order to the table to so that you and your server can confirm what was ordered - and what was delivered to your table. All basic Chinese fare, but everything was fresh and with huge portions. We ordered egg roll, crab rangoon, orange chicken, rainbow fried rice, and stir-fried rice noodle with beef. to drive to Chinatown, our party of four just had a short walk from our building. MingHin must have spent a few million dollars building out the ENTIRE building - and it is very well done both architecturally and gastronomically. If you've been here when it was Ma & I - you are in for a big surprise. and only a few blocks from the Museum Campus. The restaurant is also close to the Red Line stop at Roosevelt Rd. It was easy to find and, at $3 for 3 hours, a huge bargain. Parking is challenging around there but the restaurant has arranged validated parking in the garage of a high-rise down the block. The host was very cordial and offered to give us a tour of their second floor Japanese style rooms which were very attractive and more quiet than the bustling first floor dining rooms.
Our waiter Kang was very personable and kept checking to make sure our teapot and teacups were filled and everything was okay. Service was prompt, courteous and friendly. So bottom line: enjoy their good Chinese food but give the Japanese items a pass. The sushi was not very expertly assembled and, while the fish was fresh, it wasn't top quality. The tempura was attractively plated but was too thickly battered, though not greasy. The salad was acceptable and quite large. Then came the Japanese dishes we ordered: seaweed salad, a mixed vegetable and seafood tempura and some nigiri sushi. They were still hot from the kitchen and very tasty. We ordered a couple dim sum items which came first. but you don't use it to order instead you give your order to a waiter who takes his jotted notes to a terminal and inputs them, generates a printed list and tapes it to your table.
